about

Experiments with Amplitude Modulation is the first in an ongoing series of digital and physical releases showcasing American and international sound artists and musicians working in various forms of intuitive and improvised music.

Using a GE Globestar P965 shortwave broadcast receiver, Z. L. Melton forewent the guitar one afternoon in order to explore, experiment with, and capture the otherworldly sounds that are thriving every day on the airwaves. Whether it's the passing phrase from an evangelist in the midst of broadcasting a sermon, the static-drenched voice of an opera singer, or any one of the uncanny noises that might easily pass as part of an alien transmission, Experiments with Amplitude Modulation, though a sonic departure from Melton's usual intuitive work on the guitar, is just as much an exercise, or simply a means to enjoy the liberties and possibilities that are to be had in the processes of musical experimentation and improvisation.
